Understanding AI Requirement Extraction
Learn how Bid Refinery extracts and classifies tender requirements, and how to edit them.
Understanding AI Requirement Extraction
After you upload a tender, Bid Refinery automatically identifies every requirement and classifies it. Understanding this step helps you produce more accurate responses.
Requirement types
| Type | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Mandatory | Pass/fail requirements | "Suppliers must hold ISO 9001" |
| Scoring | Marked questions with word limits | "Describe your approach to project management (500 words)" |
| Attachment | Documents you must submit | "Provide signed declarations" |
| Policy | Policy documents required | "Submit your Equality & Diversity Policy" |
| Certification | Accreditations to evidence | "Provide Cyber Essentials certificate" |
| Insurance | Insurance levels to demonstrate | "Public liability insurance minimum £5m" |
| Other | Everything else | General conditions, instructions |
Editing requirements
Requirements are editable before and after draft generation.
- Open a project and click the Requirements tab
- Click any requirement row to expand it
- Edit the text, type, or notes directly inline
- Changes save automatically
Adding missing requirements
If the AI missed a requirement:
- Click Add Requirement at the bottom of the list
- Fill in the requirement text and type
- The new requirement is available for the next draft run
Reviewing source pages
Each requirement shows the source page numbers. Click a page reference to jump to that page in the document viewer and verify the extraction.
Re-running extraction
If the tender changes or extraction was poor quality, you can re-run requirement extraction from Project Settings > Re-extract Requirements. This does not affect existing drafts.
